Reference Services staff answers more than 150,000 questions a year, providing both short pieces of information such as addresses or phone numbers and much more extensive, in-depth information. Professionally trained information specialists are on duty at the Reference Desk all hours the Library is open; they are eager to answer your questions and provide you with all the information you need:

Some additional services provided by the Reference Department include:
- assembling books, articles, and audiovisual materials for callers who want to come in and pick up information gathered for them.
- Placing reserves on items which are checked out or available at other Quad-Linc Libraries. You can also place your own reserves through the Library’s online catalog. New materials not in the Library's collection may be requested for purchase.
- Requesting older materials not in the Library's collection may be borrowed from another library through Interlibrary Loan.
- Recommending authors and titles which may be of interest to readers. Check until Readers Services for additional details about our Readers’ Advisory services.
Local History and Genealogy Reference
Specialized reference service is available in the areas of local history and genealogy by visiting our Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center. The Center is located in the lower level of the Main Library and has extensive genealogy and local history collections. Call the Center at 563-326-7902 or visit the Center’s website by clicking on the Genealogy and Local History link on the left side of this page.
