Book Discussion Groups

Davenport Public Library hosts a variety of book discussion groups.  There is something for every reader!

DAGOBAH – The Davenport Area Gathering of Books and Humanoids – is a Science Fiction and Fantasy book discussion group that began at Davenport Public Library more than 25 years ago.  So far the group has tackled such diverse topics as Post-Holocaust Science Fiction, Cloning, Robots & Andoids, Utopias, Women in Science Fiction, and Science Fiction & Fantasy movies.  Other favorite activites include DAGOBAH @ the Movies, a swap meet, and Science Fictionary:  A Phannish Game. This group meets the second Monday of every month at 6PM at the Main Library.  No registration is required.  The public is invited to attend each and every meeting.  For details about upcoming meetings and events, check the Library's online  "Calendar of Events."

West End Book Club –  This contemporary fiction/non-fiction book discussion group meets the third Tuesday of the month (September through May) at 7:00 p.m. in the Brooke Room of the Fairmount Branch Library.  Registration is required. Check the Library's online "Calendar of Events" for the next meeting.

Between the Lines Book Discussion Group - This contemporary fiction/non-fiction book discussion group meets the second Wednesday of the month (September through May) at 7 p.m. at the Eastern Avenue Branch Library. Registration is required. Check the Library's online  "Calendar of Events" for the next meeting.

BookClub in a Box – Everything you need to set up and maintain your own book discussion group!  Have you ever wanted to host a book discussion group but didn’t know how to get started?  We can help!  The Davneport Public Library is proud to present the original “BookClub in a Box”, a simple way to get your club up and running.

Each box contains:

  • multiple copies of a book
  • A folder that gives you instructions on how to start and maintain a book discussion group
  • Questions and reviews for the included book
  • Numerous sources on where to find more information

Some boxes also include a DVD of the movie based on the book!

Currently there are more than 40 BookClub in a Box sets available for checkout.  Each box may be checked out for 6 weeks.  Check out our flyer with the latest titles!

Readers Advisory Databases – The library subscribes to many online databases that can guide your reading and help you select items you want to read.

Between the Lines Book Discussion Group

Between the Lines book discussion group will now meet at 7:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Eastern Avenue Branch Library (6000 Eastern Avenue).
 
This group discusses contemporary literature, both fiction and non-fiction. It is currently accepting new members.
 
All registered members will receive a copy of the book. Register by calling 563-888-3371, or by clicking below.

West End Book Discussion Group

WEST END BOOK DISCUSSION SEEKS NEW MEMBERS
 
The West End Book Discussion Group, sponsored by the Davenport Public Library, is seeking new members to join in on the discussion! This group meets on the third Tuesday of each month, September through May, at 7:00 p.m., at the Fairmount Branch Library (3000 N. Fairmount Street). Book selections include contemporary fiction and non-fiction titles.
 
The first meeting of the season happens on September 21, and will feature the bestselling book by Nancy Horan, Loving Frank. This historically imagined novel chronicles the love affair between Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick Cheney. If you like reading love stories, historical fiction, and/or biographical fiction, you don’t want to miss this discussion!
