Fairmount Branch Temporarily Closing for Exciting Upgrades

Davenport Public Library’s Fairmount Branch will be temporarily closed from August 17 through September 7, 2026, as we complete a major interior refresh. We are planning to welcome the community back on September 8, 2026.

During the closure, crews will install new carpet throughout the building and apply a fresh coat of paint in both public and staff areas. The project will also provide an opportunity to improve the branch layout, including enhancements to children's, teen, and customer service spaces, as well as accessibility improvements to self-checkout stations.

These upgrades are part of a series of recent investments at Fairmount. Over the past couple of years, the City campus has seen the addition of the Fairmount Community Center, a pocket playground, and a new roof for the library building. The Library has also installed a Little Free Library at the bus stop and the City recently resurfaced Fairmount Street. When the branch reopens, visitors will also enjoy energy-efficient LED lighting, refreshed spaces, and other improvements designed to create a more welcoming and accessible experience.

While Fairmount is closed, patrons can continue to return materials through the book drop, which will remain open. Library services will be available at the Main Library and Eastern Branch, and Fairmount patrons may choose either location for holds pickup. Borrow by Mail will also remain available. Please note that the Fairmount drive-thru window will be closed during the project.

Some programs and services will be temporarily relocated, and additional hours will be offered at our Eastern Branch to help meet increased demand. Patrons are encouraged to visit The Library’s website for updates and service information throughout the closure.

We appreciate the community's patience as we invest in Fairmount's future. As the branch celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026, these improvements will help ensure it continues serving the neighborhood for many years to come. And there's even more to look forward to! A Library Community Garden is planned for later this fall as part of an Eagle Scout project with funding from the Clean River Advisory Council.

To place holds, you can access your account online or give us a call at (563) 326-7832.

We can't wait to welcome everyone back to a brighter, refreshed Fairmount Branch this September!

Discontinuing Physical Audiobooks

As we shared before, Davenport Public Library is adding lots more e-books and digital audiobooks through BRIDGES, and bringing the Library of Things to all three locations!

To help make room and better use our budget, The Library stopped buying physical audiobooks (books on CD) on June 30, 2025.

Starting in September 2025, staff will begin removing physical audiobooks from the shelves at Main Library, Eastern Branch, and Fairmount Branch.

Thank you for helping us grow and change to meet your needs!

Main Library Renovation

Back in 2018, our community came together to celebrate Main Library’s 50th birthday! We also started a big project to make The Library even better.

In 2020, we finished the first part of the project. We added:

  • Study rooms
  • More meeting spaces
  • Comfy seats with places to charge devices
  • Better heating and cooling
  • New restrooms
  • Our first Makerspace! (A fun place to create and build)

In October 2024, we started the second part of the project and wrapped it up in October 2025!

New Children's Areas!

We have exciting news! Davenport Public Library is adding new learning activities to the children’s areas at all three library locations.

This big project started in November 2023 at the Fairmount Branch and Eastern Branch. Then, in November 2024, we added even more fun things at those two branches and started adding them at the Main Library too!

Thanks to generous donations, this project is bringing bright, fun, and hands-on learning to help kids play and grow.

Come visit and check out what’s new!
